Year 1 of marriage
Marriage is what brings us together today… or rather, one year of marriage. I thought it might be nice to keep this website as a way to annually track all that has happened since our wedding day. So whether you’re one of our family/friends who happened upon this site again after finding our invitation in your junk pile or a rando on the internet looking for another Richard and Rebecca’s wedding website, welcome!
It’s safe to say, May 14, 2022 was a tough one to beat. The day was absolutely perfect. I look back on the photos and wouldn’t change a thing. The Women’s March happening on the National Mall that day and the ensuing traffic made it the most DC wedding possible. But despite the crowds and the light rain, the whole day went off without a hitch!
We’re spending our one-year anniversary glamping in West Virginia, packing a Smith Island Cake in honor our wedding-day dessert.
Here’s what has happened in our lives over the last year:
We spent our honeymoon at an all inclusive resort in the Bahamas. We swam with the infamous pigs, met some iguanas that loved grapes, swam in some of the bluest water we’ve ever seen, golfed, and spent an ungodly amount of time sitting on a tarmac on the way home.
We enjoyed our fair share of sports, from Wizards and Mystics games, to Orioles and the Nationals, and even some Maryland baseball, basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, and football. Richard even gifted me and my friends all-you-can-eat and drink tickets to the Washington Spirit for my 31st birthday. I’m is now a proud season ticket holder for the Spirit while Richard bought season tickets for Maryland football.
We joined the neighborhood pool! Well not our neighborhood, but the pool I grew up going to in Alexandria. My parents are lifetime members and my brother Matt and his family also belong. Richard and I went to the pool a total of three times during summer ‘22.
I returned to the hot corner after avoiding it in the games leading up the the wedding. I played for the Fighting Green Weasels, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and the Auburn alumni team. I also started my first fall ball season with The Misfits, but broke my finger half way through the season. When the Green Weasels needed more players, Richard stepped in at first and made some astonishing catches, winning himself the MVP award given out by the opposing team (I received the other one that game). Softball is back up and running for the summer ‘23 season and I’m back at it.
Little Dude started an immunotherapy course that seems to be improving his allergies. He had a slight relapse in spring ‘23, but seems to be back on track. As for Malarkey, she’s still floofing around as obliviously happy as can be.
We spent a long weekend on Kent Island with my family, including the Florida Longs. Many blue crabs were caught and we got to catch a Smash Mouth concert from Cal Ripkin’s spot at Camden Yards. I made Richard cross the Bay bridge six times that weekend, he wasn’t happy.
Thanks to Darin and Melanie, we got to see SNL in person in NYC. SNL host Brendan Gleeson had some great sketches with the cast and Colin Farrell. We were even lucky enough to attend the after party where we shared the same foot of air space with Woody Harrelson.
I bought a tv stand that Richard absolutely hates. 🤷♀️
We spent MLK Day weekend ‘23 in Puerto Rico with friends. We hiked in the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. Forest Service system, El Yunque, and jet skied in the ocean before returning to our Airbnb to drink and eat by the pool.
Purely for my poor memory: I saw Six, Wicked (for my niece Scarlet’s first show), Cats, Jagged Little Pill, and Les Miserables this year.
After talking about it for a while, Richard bought himself a bright orange e-bike that is very fun to ride.
Cheers to year two!
